Thomas Rösner was born in Vienna and studied in Vienna, attending masterclasses by Ilya Musin, Myung-Whun Chung and Hans Graf.
He has conducted more than 50 orchestras on four continents, including the Deutsches Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Vienna, Bamberg and Hamburg Symphony Orchestras, Houston Symphony, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Bergen and Calgary Philharmonic Orchestras, MDR Leipzig, Orchestre Capitole de Toulouse, Orchestre National de Bordeaux, Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra and the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra. Between 2005 and 2011, he was chief conductor of the Orchestre Symphonique Bienne in Switzerland.
Thomas Rösner has also conducted at renowned opera houses throughout the world: at the Bavarian State Opera Munich, Semperoper Dresden, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Staatsoper Stuttgart, Glyndebourne Festival, Welsh National Opera, Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Geneva Opera, at the Edinburgh International Festival, Bregenz Festival, Opéra National de Lyon, in Nantes, Marseille, Bordeaux, in Rome and at the New National Theatre in Tokyo. Recent productions include Die Fledemaus for Welsh National Opera, L’elisir d’amore in Nantes/Angers, and new productions of Cosi fan tutte and Fidelio at Opernhaus Zurich.
Rösner has recorded Il Trovatore on DVD for Opus Arte, Janáček’s Glagolitic Mass and various CDs with the Orchestre Symphonique Bienne for ATMA and Guildmusic as well as for the BBC, ORF, DRS and Bavarian Radio.
