“An Octavian in the making” - Anne Marie Gibbons’s “fiery” Ariodante

05 November 2009

Anne Marie Gibbons is a resounding success in ETO’s production of Ariodante (one of a number of productions in the company’s Handelfest - Anne Marie also sings the title role in Teseo), and has attracted the praise of critics: “Anne Marie Gibbons was an outstanding Ariodante, whether fiery in coloratura, sharing in a ravishing love-duet with Rachel Nicholls …, or lamenting in a memorably beautiful ‘Love undying’.” (Christopher Morley, Birmingham Post).

Ariodante is undoubtedly one of the most technically demanding parts in baroque opera, and Anne Marie defies the challenges with her “enviable technique in the coloratura passages that litter the role… Her sound was fresh and attractive and she did not put a foot wrong” writes Mike Reynolds for Musical Criticism.

Among her future operatic appearances, Anne Marie will perform Dorabella Cosi fan tutte for Welsh National Opera.
