The short-list for the prestigious 2009 Gramophone Awards has just been announced, and we are delighted that The Cardinall’s Musick have reached this important stage.
The Cardinall’s Musick have been shortlisted in the Early Music category for “Hodie Simon Petrus”, volume 11 of their complete William Byrd series for Hyperion Records. No strangers to the Gramophone Awards, The Cardinall’s Musick have won in this category three times before, most recently in 2007 for their last Byrd CD (Volume 10 - “Laudibus in Sanctis” - more information here). BBC Music Magazine have also praised the recording: “This performance is unparalleled in its depth of expression and intelligence…this performances brings us into the ‘heavenly kingdom’ longed for by Byrd”.
