Christopher Ainslie makes his Glyndebourne debut

On the 23rd October, countertenor Christopher Ainslie made his debut for Glyndebourne singing Ottone in Robert Carsen’s production of Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, conducted by Jonathan Cohen.  Further details of the cast and performance dates can be found here.

Following on from his recent success as Tamerlano at Göttingen, Christopher now plays this very different character with equal success: Martin Kettle in the Gaurdian described him as a “compelling Ottone”, while Peter Reed in Opera Magazine said “Christopher Ainslie’s portrayal of Ottone was stunning, his lean, even countertenor seemingly having gained in power and nobility”. 

Christopher will return to Glyndebourne in 2011 to sing Eustazio in Rinaldo.
