30 April 2010

We’re delighted to officially announce that the young South African countertenor Christopher Ainslie has joined the Rayfield Artists roster.

Christopher has just returned from his triumphant debut at the Göttingen Handel Festival where he sang the title role in Tamerlano, conducted by Nicholas McGegan (“an incredibly virtuosic alto with a beautiful voice, [and] also a performer with many facets.” - Goettinger Tageblatt)

Christopher has already built up an impressive list of operatic engagements, with other notable recent appearances including the title role in Arne’s Artaxerxes and Innocent 4 in the world premiere of Harrison Birtwistle’s The Minotaur for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, the title role in Handel’s Poro at the London Handel Festival, Ottone in L’incoronazione di Poppea at Drottningholms Slottsteater, Arsace in Partenope in Les Azuriales Opera Festival, and The Voice of Apollo in Death in Venice with Opera de Lyon.

Upcoming operatic engagements include Ottone with Glyndebourne on Tour conducted by Jonathan Cohen and the title role in Handel’s Amadigi for Central City Opera, USA conducted by Matthew Halls.

This Sunday (July 4th) Christopher will also make his début recital at the Wigmore Hall in a fascinating programme including works by Purcell, Handel and Mahler. More details can be found by clicking here.
