James Oxley débuts as Gluck’s Orphee at Theater Dortmund

James Oxley’s title role début in the taxing high-tenor version of Gluck’s Orphée at Theater Dortmund, in a new production by Intendantin Christine Mielitz conducted by Jac van Steen, has been greeted with excellent reviews in the German press.

The newspaper Westfälische Rundschau said of his performance “James Oxley mastered the tenor part outstandingly, word perfect and highly expressive with his charmingly beautiful and flexible voice… Oxley performs impressively throughout, with a never-tiring voice and the demanding physical stamina which the role requires.” Julia Gaß of the Ruhr Nachrichten also praised him, saying “Oxley has a beautiful, lyrical and high tenor voice”.

James Oxley will perform the role again in the revival of the production at Theater Dortmund in the 2010/11 season.
