New Artist: conductor Nicholas Cleobury

02 February 2010

We are delighted that conductor Nicholas Cleobury has joined the Rayfield Artists roster.  He is one of Britain’s most experienced and respected conductors: an orchestral and operatic interpreter of flair and imagination, he is also an expert choral conductor and has a passionate commitment to contemporary music.

He is Founder Laureate of the Britten Sinfonia, Principal Conductor and Founder Director of Sounds New and Principal Conductor of the Oxford Bach Choir. He is also the new Artistic Director of Mid Wales Opera, with whom he will conduct Verdi’s Falstaff later this year in a new production by Martin Lloyd-Evans.

He is an enormously experienced concert and opera conductor with an impressive history of working with most of the established companies and festivals throughout Britain and abroad, including English National Opera, Glyndebourne, Opera North, the Proms, Aldeburgh, Welsh National Opera and Zurich Opera.  He appears regularly on the BBC and Classic fM and has a wide discography, recording notably with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Britten Sinfonia.

“… among this country’s most dynamic and versatile conductors.” - The Independent

“Nicholas Cleobury conducts with élan and precision.” - Financial Times
