Scottish Opera announces 2010-11 season

Today Scottish Opera launches its new season,

Francesco Corti will conduct the opening main stage opera, a new production by Sir Thomas Allen of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro with Kate Valentine singing the role of La Contessa.  The Scottish Herald comments that “Indeed, the whole production, which is likely to be one of the highlights of the season, is very strongly cast. In a real coup for the company, the fantastic baritone Roderick Williams will sing Count Almaviva [and] Kate Valentine will sing the Countess

Second on the main stage is a new production of Handel’s Orlando. Andrew Radley will sing Medoro, alongside a cast tha also includes Tim Mead and Sally Silver.  The production, directed by Harry Fehr, will be conducted by award-winning Handel specialist Paul Goodwin.

Lastly the Swedish conductor Tobias Ringborg, who conducted Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutti in 2009, returns to conduct the UK premiere of Matthew Richardson and Jon Morrell’s production of Verdi’s Rigoletto, in which “dramatic baritone Eddie Wade, attracting a lot of attention” will make his company debut in the title role.
