“An impressive team achievement” for Nicholas Cleobury and MWO

04 October 2011

One year on from his superb debut as Mid Wales Opera’s Artistic Director, Nicholas Cleobury remains on blistering form, conducting a fine cast of young singers and MWO’s fabulous orchestra in Stephen Barlow’s new production of Madam Butterfly.  Now mid-tour, the run has been garnering tremendous critical acclaim from opening night onwards:

“It is thanks to Artistic Director and conductor Nicholas Cleobury driving the score forward with a real feel for its detail that Puccini’s characterisations begin to shine through. ”
Rian Evans, The Guardian

“MWO’s musical director, Nicholas Cleobury, led a tight, beautifully paced account of the pared-down score. ”
Hugo Shirley, The Telegraph

“Conductor Nicholas Cleobury created a sensitive balance.”
Birmingham Post
