Kate Valentine sings her first Tatyana

17 July 2011

Kate Valentine is making her debut this month in the role of Tatyana in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, in a new production directed by Harry Fehr, conducted by Nicholas Jenkins.

Anna Picard of The Independent on Sunday has rightly spotted that this is an important debut: “Valentine identifies the steel in Tchaikovsky’s heroine, with a thrilling, healthful tone and absolute emotional engagement… this is a whole-body, whole-voice match of artist to role. Blackheath can be proud that they heard it first.”

Kate can next be seen in another new production, Mozart’s Figaro at ENO, where she sings what has become her signature role: Countess Almaviva.  More information can be found here.
