Meneses magnificent at Wigmore Hall

19 April 2011

The superb Brazilian cellist Antonio Meneses brought his tour around the major music capitals of Europe with Maria João Pires to a fitting conclusion with a stunning recital at Wigmore Hall on 13 April.

Giving the concert a 5-star rating, Hilary Finch in The Times remarked that this was a “performance which brought a real sense of community, of intimately shared music-making.  Nobody coughed.  I didn’t look at my watch once.  And, at the end, I didn’t even want to go home” .

Barry Millington in the London Evening Standard noted that Meneses’ Stradivarius’ “luminous quality enhanced his stylish rendering of Bach’s First Cello Suite”.
