The Prince Consort perform Stephen Hough premiere at the Wigmore Hall

06 June 2011

On Saturday June 11th The Prince Consort will give the world-premiere performance of a new song-cycle Other Love Songs specially written for the ensemble by celebrated pianist and composer Stephen Hough.  The performance will be at 9.45pm at the Wigmore Hall, and further details can be found by clicking here.

The cycle is now available for digital download, and the CD (which also features both sets of Brahms’  Liebesliederwalzer) is officially released later this month.  For more information and to download any of the tracks, please visit the LINN records website where the disc is currently featured as ‘Recording of the Week’.

For the new cycle Stephen Hough was keen “to avoid setting poems about romantic love between a man and a woman. Other Love Songs explore other kinds of love; and, as a symbol of this, the accompaniment is for three rather than four hands at one piano.”  You can read more from the composer about the writing of Other Love Songs by reading his article in The Daily Telegraph, and Stephen and The Prince Consort also feature in a major article in the June issue of Gramophone Magazine which can be downloaded by clicking here.
