Mhairi Lawson’s ‘Venice by Night’ is Classic fM “CD of the Week”

The French Connection 2 – described by the critics as “an eye-opening, ear-flattering delight from start to finish” – Mhairi Lawson’s latest recording was chosen as Classic fM “CD of the week” soon after its release on 25 June 2012.

Venice by Night
evokes an era of the Venetian Republic when the arts flourished, attracting audiences from all over Europe including scores of royalty. Feeding the tourist trade, the resident composers reveled in creating everything from grand operas and serenatas, virtuoso concertos and sinfonias, motets and gondoliers’ ballads, and includes once again unearthed numerous works from this period that are recorded for the first time.

David Vickers of Gramophone says “Mhairi Lawson’s honey-coated singing and the elegant strings perfectly convey the allusion to a smiling soul rejoicing”.
