Rayfield Allied artists featured in Opera Award winners

8 April 2014

The Opera Awards 2014 took place on Sunday and amongst the impressive list of recipients were two opera productions from the last year which featured artists from Rayfield Allied.

Aldeburgh Festival’s ‘Peter Grimes on the beach’ won the Anniversary Production (Britten) category.  Set on Aldeburgh beach itself, this very unique production featured Gaynor Keeble in the role of Auntie.  Gaynor’s performance was hailed as “excellent” (BBC Music Magazine), “rich toned” (Opera Today) and “plush-toned” (The Sunday Times) and can now be viewed on DVD, where her singing in the women’s quartet ‘From the gutter’ has been deemed a “vocal highlight” (International Record Review).

In the World Premiere category, Bregenz Festival’s The Merchant of Venice took the prize.  Singing the title role, Christopher Ainslie‘s Antonio was described as “excellent” (The Telegraph), “sweet-voiced” (Wiener Zeitung) and “absolutely perfect” (Der neue Merker).
