Borodin Quartet honoured with International Shostakovich Award

The Borodin Quartet is thrilled to receive the International Shostakovich Award on Saturday 20th June 2015 in Gohrisch (near Dresden), Germany.

The prestigious Prize will be bestowed to the members of the Quartet in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the work of Dmitri Shostakovich, a composer who has always played a huge role in the ensemble’s existence - he and his music have influenced all of the Borodin Quartet’s members (former and current) immensely.

The Borodin Quartet performs two concerts in at the International Shostakovich Days Festival in Gohrisch on 20th and 21st June which will include Shostakovich string quartets Nos. 8, 6 and 3, as well as Myaskovsky string quartet No. 13. For more information on the concerts please click here.

Gohrisch is the place where Shostakovich composed his Eighth String Quartet in 1960, making this occasion even more special for the Borodin Quartet’s members who say: “We are delighted to be able to play the Eighth quartet in Gohrisch and we are sure that this visit is going to be very special and unique for us. We have played this work hundreds of times and have read a lot about when Shostakovich was composing this outstanding soul-awakening masterpiece and for the first time we will be able to experience and to really feel it physically there!
