The fourth and final volume of Christian Blackshaw’s complete Mozart sonata cycle was released on Wigmore Hall Live this season. The Sunday Times describes his playing as “so searching and satisfying”, with a five-star Sinfini critic stating that “this is Mozart to return to time and again”.
The disc has been listed in The New York Times ‘Best Classical Music Recordings of 2015’, which writes that it is “another welcome demonstration of his immaculate tone, delicate way with pacing and exquisite taste in articulation… nothing fails to enchant.”
The start of the season also held performances of Mozart’s piano concerti with the Bamberger Symphoniker, I Musici de Montréal and Orchestra Nazionale della RAI. The reviews for each have been glowing.
This month he returns to the Mariinsky Orchestra to perform Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor at the invitation of Valery Gergiev, followed by a hotly anticipated recital at Wigmore Hall performing works by Schubert and Schumann.
