Sean Shibe wins RPS Young Artist Award

10 May 2018

We are thrilled to announce that Sean Shibe is the winner of the 2018 RPS Young Artist Award.

Having been nominated in both the Young Artist and Instrumentalist categories at the Royal Philharmonic Society, Sean Shibe is delighted to have been shortlisted among colleagues Elim Chan, Louise Alder, Isabelle Faust and Igor Levit.

Shibe is renowned for juxtaposing two faces of the guitar repertoire, including his own arrangements of J.S Bach Lute Suites for the acoustic guitar and Jacobean Scottish Lute Manuscripts. He has developed a revelatory programme juxtaposing these early Scottish lute pieces for acoustic guitar, with electric guitar arrangements of multi-tracked repertoire including US Pulitzer prize winning composers Julia Wolfe’s powerful elegy LAD, (originally written for 9 bagpipes) and David Lang’s Killer. This programme is known as softLOUD, and has been recorded on Delphian Records for release in September 2018.

Our warmest congratulations to Sean.
