Hubert Francis makes house debut at Israeli Opera as Herod in Salome

Tenor, Hubert (Hugh) Francis begins the New Year at Israeli Opera in his house debut in the role of Herod in Salome. Hugh debuted the role at Singapore Opera and went on to have great success as Herod at State Opera of South Australia.

In this new production of Strauss’ work, Itay Tiran directs one of the greatest operatic masterpieces based on Oscar Wilde’s play. Dan Ettinger conducts the mesmerizing music including the famous Dance of the Seven Veils. The wonderful costumes have been designed by the Israeli born Orna Smorgonsky in her first production at Israeli Opera.

Following this engagement, Hugh travels to Helsinki to sing to role of Hauptmann in a new production of Wozzeck at Finnish National Opera before returning to The Royal Opera House Covent Garden to revive his acclaimed appearances as Spoletta Tosca.


Also making his house debut at Israeli Opera in this production of Salome, Adrian Dwyer appears in the role of Second Nazarene.
