“Devastating simplicity”: Alan Opie is “outstanding” as Klinghoffer at ENO

28 February 2012

In what is being hailed as “the event of the season” by The Observer, Alan Opie’s performance as Klinghoffer in English National Opera’s production of The Death of Klinghoffer has been unanimously praised by critics as “outstanding” (Financial Times, The Telegraph, The Wall Street Journal) and “excellent” (The Independent).

At the dramatic climax of John Adams’ opera, Anna Picard finds Alan Opie’s Aria of the Falling Man to be “heartbreakingly eloquent” (The Independent); a performance likewise described by George Hall as possessing “a surreal poignancy” (The Stage), and for Andrew Clements: “devastating simplicity” (The Guardian).
