Raphaël Pichon and Ensemble Pygmalion big winners of French Grammies

25 November 2015

Two of Raphaël Pichon’s recent recordings with Ensemble Pygmalion have been awarded Classical Album of 2015 in France’s 68th Grands Prix de l’Académie Charles Cros. He received the prestigious award, the French equivalent of the US’s Grammy Award, for his recording of Rameau’s Castor et Pollux (Harmonia Mundi), a recording of which the critics wrote: ‘The chorus and orchestra under Raphaël Pichon are first-rate… All in all this is a splendid achievement…’ (Gramophone July 2015).

The prize was split between two recordings, the second of which he shares with his wife, soprano Sabine Devieilhe, for their joint production of Mozart aria’s: ‘The Weber Sisters’ (Erato) on which Ensemble Pygmalion, conducted by Pichon, also appears.
