Artist in Focus: Katie Bray

  • This week’s #RAArtistinFocus is mezzo-soprano, Katie Bray! Katie has become known for her magnetic stage presence and gleaming, expressive tone.

    Winner of the Dame Joan Sutherland Audience Prize at Cardiff Singer of the World 2019 she has performed roles for Opera North, English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, Scottish Opera, Irish National Opera, Opera Holland Park and Grange Park Opera.
  • #RAArtistinFocus Katie Bray appears regularly on the opera stage. Recently she has performed the role of Rosina in The Barber of Seville at Garsington, Nancy in Albert Herring at Opera North and the title role in Griselda for Irish National Opera.
    She appears as Flora in the upcoming film of La Traviata with Opera Glassworks.
  • #RAArtistinFocus Katie Bray enjoys recital work and has performed on the concert stage in prestigious venues such as Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall, and the Holywell Music Room. She appears regularly at the Oxford Internation Song Festival for which she recorded a disc of Schumann songs with Sholto Kynoch.
    She has also appeared with orchestras including the Britten Sinfonia, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre Chambre de Paris, and Aalborg Symphony. Earlier this year she collaborated with Manchester Collective and Freya Waley-Cohen in the first performance of 'Spell Book' a song cycle for an all-female ensemble -
    In July Katie will join the English Concert under Harry Bicket and perform a programme of Purcell and Bach as part of the Buxton International Festival
  • #RAArtistinFocus Katie Bray is particularly noted for baroque repertoire and has appeared with Barokksolistene and Bjarte Eike, Monteverdi Choir and Sir John Eliot Gardiner, La Nuova Musica, Ludus Baroque, Wroclaw Baroque Orchestra, Spira Mirabilis and the English Concert under Harry Bicket.
    In October this year she will perform Charpentier's Actéon & Rameau Pygmalion with Laurence Cummings and the Academy of Ancient Music
  • This Sunday #RAArtistinFocus Katie Bray will make her Grange Park Opera debut in the role of Varvara in Janáček’s Katya Kabanova, a role she previously performed for Opera North.
