"The Best Samson Ever": BBC Music Magazine award nomination for RA artists

19 February 2021

We are delighted that the Dunedin Consort's recording of Handel's Samson, featuring Joshua Ellicott (title role), Matthew Brook (Manoah) and Fflur Wyn (Philistine Woman, Virgin), has been nominated for a 2021 BBC Music Magazine Award.

Hailed as "The best Samson ever" by the publication upon its release, it received Recording of the Month and a 5 star review.

"John Butt has created the best Samson ever. He’s chosen the original 1743 version, star soloists with early-music chops and his band of top instrumentalists… As Samson, Joshua Ellicott is wonderful from his first air, which he infuses with a whispered despair to the swelling nobility of his last."
