Daniel Kidane has been commissioned by the Huddersfield Choral Society to set text by Poet Laureate Simon Armitage to music in a response to the Covid-19 pandemic. In what will be a very meaningful occasion, the society wishes to remember departed friends yet also provide hope for choral singers throughout the UK.
Throughout the lockdown period, Daniel Kidane has been an influential online presence, delivering virtual workshops and talks, and this month speaking on the panel at Ensemble Modern's Symposium: Afro-Modernism in Contemporary Music. He also recently joined the Ivors Academy Board, where will he provide strategic leadership at the UK's professional association for music creators.
He has written a musical 'Postcard from Home' for guitarist Sean Shibe as part of the BBC Radio Scotland's Classics Unwrapped series, as well as Dappled Light for violinists Maxine Kwok and Julian Gil Rodriguez premiered to a socially distanced audience and online for the London Symphony Orchestra's Summer Shorts series.
