Artist in Focus: David Parry

12 February 2024

- This week's Artist in Focus is conductor David Parry who returns to Scottish Opera tomorrow night to conduct the UK-premiere of Jonathan Dove's Marx in London! Since his debut with the company in 2015 with Carmen – for which the Scotsman wrote 'The Orchestra plays like a dream under David Parry' – he has conducted La traviata, Hänsel und Gretel, Rossini's Scala de Seta, Wolf-Ferrari's Il secretto di Susanna and Mascagni's Zanetto. Watch him conduct Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel from 2021 here:

- David Parry is a close collaborator of composer Jonathan Dove. Tonight he conducts Marx in London! for the second time having conducted its world premiere at Theater Bonn. The Süddeutsche Zeitung wrote 'The Beethoven-Orchester Bonn plays all this competently and transparently under the taut direction of David Parry.' This follows from other world premieres including 'Flight' at Glyndebourne, 'The Adventures of Pinnochio' at Opera North, 'Mansfield Park' at The Grange Festival and 'Tobias and The Angel' at the Almeida Theatre. - David Parry is equally at home on the concert platform and in recent seasons has appeared regularly with orchestras such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. His performance of Elgar 2 with the LPO “benefited from the detail and texture that Parry gave it.” (Bachtrack). Next month, he conducts the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic in a wide-ranging ‘Classic FM Hall of Fame' programme. More information and tickets here:
