Michael Mofidian's role debut as Osmin in Die Entführung aus dem Serail at Glyndebourne

5 August 2026

Michael Mofidian made his role debut as Osmin in Glyndebourne's revival production of Die Entführung aus dem Serail, and received stellar reviews from the press.

"As Selim’s henchman, Osmin, Michael Mofidian bestrides the evening thanks to his easy command of both comedy and villainy. [...] His character is fully rounded and his big introductory aria “Solche hergelaufne Laffen” resounded brilliantly. He formed a hilarious double-act with the fast-rising French soprano Julie Roset as Blonde..." - Bachtrack

"Michael Mofidian's resonant bass notes as Osmin. Mofidian convinces totally as the faithful servant, dedicated to both his master and culture (when it suits)." - Broadway World

"Massive props go to Michael Mofidian and Thomas Cilluffo, as Osmin and Pedrillo, respectively, who, during their post-‘Vivat Bacchus’ dialogue scene, encountered a door that was unintentionally jammed shut and prevented their exit. This was beautifully played off: not many can ad-lib in German so well that we didn’t notice until Pedrillo exclaimed ‘scheiße!’ – it’s what Mozart would have wanted."

"Michael Mofidian brought a real physicality and an almost Disney henchman energy to Osmin. Again, a lovely dynamic control of tone and diction." - Opera Now

"The Osmin of Michael Mofidian, a singer originally from Glasgow, was a wide-ranging, fascinating and convincing portrayal, but I missed the deep resonance of a true basso profundo." - The Arts Desk

"Michael Mofidian’s unrelentingly deplorable Osmin – another brilliantly sung and acted portrayal." - The Stage

"Kudos too to Michael Mofidian’s Osmin. Since “villains” get booed these days at curtain calls, the ovations given to the charismatic bass (he looked relieved) were proof he’d performed the character with a fresh spin." - The Times

"Michael Mofidian, returning to Glyndebourne, stole every scene as the delightfully petty Osmin." - The Argus
