Birtwistle’s Angel Fighter creates a “pungent and persuasive statement”

15 July 2015

“Harrison Birtwistle might have turned 80, but he shows no sign of slowing down”, states The New York Times.

Two major works ‘Angel Fighter’ and ‘In Broken Images’ have been released on NMC recently adding to the near complete catalogue of his works on disc.

“Angel Fighter climaxes in one of the great dramatic moments in Birtwistle’s concert music” says Andrew Clements in The Guardian and, according to Arnold Whittall in the Gramophone magazine, “this CD is a pungent and persuasive statement about what properly serious music can achieve today”.

The works are brilliantly performed by the London Sinfonietta conducted by David Atherton continuing a remarkable working relationship which goes back over 40 years.
