During February 2013 BBC Four are screening a major new three-part series that explores the last century of modern classical composition. As key figures in the development of twentieth-century music, the series features contributions from Rayfield Allied composers Harrison Birtwistle and Steve Reich.
Titled “The Sound and the Fury: A Century of Music” the series looks at the revolution in twentieth-century music, starting with the works of Schoenberg, Webern, Stravinsky and beyond. The second and third parts of the series delve deeper into the development of modern classical music through some of the main personalities that helped mould its journey.
The series accompanies the South Bank Centre’s year-long festival The Rest is Noise which features the world premiere of Steve Reich’s Radio Rewrite in March.
The first part of the series is broadcast on Tuesday 12 February at 9pm on BBC Four.
