On Saturday 1 September 2018 tenor Sam Furness and stage director Jack Furness make their BBC Proms debuts with a semi-staging of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Trial by Jury, directed by Jack and starring Sam as The Defendant. The performance will take place at the newly-restored Alexandra Palace Theatre.

In the 2018-19 season Jack will make his US debut with Dallas Opera, reviving David McVicar’s production of Carmen and will return to the Teatru Manoel in Malta to direct Così fan tutti, which will complete his series of the Da Ponte trilogy for the house, following productions of Don Giovanni in 2018 and Le nozze di Figaro in 2017.

In the same season Sam makes his house debuts both at the Theater an der Wien as Rodolphe Guillaume Tell and at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in the roles of the Novice Billy Budd and Simpleton Boris Godunov.

The performance of Trial by Jury is sold out but will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 at 3pm on Saturday 1 September and will be available afterwards to listen again here.
