RPS Awards success for Birtwistle Festival

The Barbican Centre’s series of tribute concerts ‘Birtwistle at 80’ in May 2014 received at an RPS award this month for Best Concert Series, featuring many of his finest works including Gawain, Yan Tan Tethera, and Earth Dances with the LSO conducted by Daniel Harding.

Also this month NMC Records are releasing Birtwistle’s Angel Fighter, In Broken Images and Virelai performed by the London Sinfonietta and BBC Singers conducted by David Atherton, with soloists Andrew Watts and Jeffrey Lloyd Roberts. You can pre-order your copy here.

Birtwistle’s latest music theatre piece The Cure opens at the Aldeburgh Festival on June 12 followed by performances at the Linbury Theatre London. It is performed in conjunction with The Corridor from 2009 in a new production by Martin Duncan, designed by Alison Chitty with Geoffrey Paterson conducting the London Sinfonietta and soloists Elizabeth Atherton and Mark Padmore.
