Langridge’s Figaro is “a sparkling tribute to humanism, empathy and love”

15 September 2014

Stephen Langridge’s new production of Le Nozze di Figaro has opened at Gothenburg Opera to great public and critical acclaim. It is his first production in the house where he was appointed Artistic Director in 2013. He and conductor Jane Glover have welded a superb cast into a fine ensemble doing full justice to Mozart’s and da Ponte’s unique and masterful music drama. There are 19 performances until November 26.

The production is designed by George Souglides, with an outstanding cast which includes Dutch baritone Thomas Oliemans as the Count, Swedish soprano Malin Hartelius as the Countess, Anna Grevelius as Cherubino, Markus Schwartz as Figaro, Ida Falk Winland as Susanna and Mats Almgren as Bartolo. Svenska Dagbladet writes that “Göteborg Opera’s Le Nozze di Figaro is a sparkling tribute to humanism, empathy and love”.
