https://www.staatsoper-hamburg...This week’s #RAArtistinFocus is countertenor Xavier Sabata. A trained actor, Sabata has appeared on the world’s most prestigious opera stages including Gran Teatre Liceu, Teatro Real Madrid, La Fenice, Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Wiener Staatsoper among others.
“always a great artist, sensitive musician, and charismatic actor” (Platea Magazine)
Xavier most recently sang the title role in Calixto Bieito’s Giulio Cesare in his return to Gran Teatre del Liceu. Other recent roles this season included Esperienza in I Grotteschi at La Monnaie – a new production conducted by Leonardo García Alarcón which featured a collection of works by Monteverdi, and the title role in Orlando at Oper Köln, both directed by Rafael Villalobos.
One of Xavier Sabata’s regular collaborators include Dani Espasa and his ensemble Vespres d’Arnadí, performing at Wigmore Hall, across Spain and next year in Germany. They most recently released an album titled ‘inVISIBILI’ spotlighting forgotten Baroque works. You can listen here.
Xavier Sabata also enjoys exploring his other creative talents including directing and starring in a one-man show of Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire at the Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona, as well as a staged Winterreise
by Rafael Villalobos most recently to a sold-out audience at La Monnaie. In his next project, he returns to the Peralada Festival to perform a one-man show ‘Genius Loci’ - a unique stage performance that invites the audience to lose themselves in an imaginary garden.
Further ahead, Xavier Sabata makes his debut at Staatsoper Hamburg as Engel in Das Paradies und die Peri, Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream at Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, and a revival of Le Grand Macabre at Wiener Staatsoper, and returns to La Monnaie, Teatro Real and Oper Koln
