Johanna Soller and Capella Sollertia win the The German Record Critics' Award 2026

15 October 2026

Huge congratulations to Johanna Soller and Capella Sollertia for winning the The German Record Critics' Award! This prestigious award is awarded by a panel of up to 160 music critics and journalists from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, dedicated to recognizing outstanding music and spoken word productions.

Johanna and her group were recognised for their recording of JL Bach's Leipzig Cantatas. Written by JS Bach's cousin in 1726, these works were increasingly being lost to time, however this album has helped spotlight them once again, being not only a fantastic musical achievement, but an act of revival and restoration. The jury wrote the following in their announcement of the award:

In the Capella Sollertia's meticulous, balanced, textually clear, and vivid interpretation, we experience gripping musical sermons that beautifully confirm Bach's recommendation to the Leipzig audience, even after 300 years. Adept in the Italian, French, and Protestant church styles, and gifted with a melodic inventiveness that extends to folk song-like qualities, Bach's cousin from Meiningen lends the Central German Baroque tradition a distinctive voice within the concert of European Baroque.
