Artist in Focus: Julia Jones

This week’s #RAArtistinFocus is conductor Julia Jones who makes her return to Oper Frankfurt this Saturday in Cimarosa’s rare gem ‘L’italiana in Londra.’ Since her premiere with the company with Die Entführung aus dem Serail she has conducted Die Zauberflöte and Falstaff as well as new productions of Idomeneo, La clemenza di Tito, Così fan tutte and Le nozze di Figaro. #RAArtistinFocus Julia Jones has also appeared many times at The Royal Opera House where her recent performances of Verdi’s Rigoletto were called ‘Pure Perfection’ by Broadway World. Julia has appeared at many of the world’s most prestigious opera houses including Berlin Staatsoper , Wiener Staatsoper, Bayerische Staatsoper, Semperoper Dresden, Oper Hamburg, Salzburger Festpiele and Bayerische Staatsoper. Future engagements include Aida, Otello, Die Zauberflote and Figaro at companies including Covent Garden, Oper Frankfurt, Den Norske Opera and the Royal Danish Opera. Having previously been Chief Conductor at Theater Basel and at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, #RAArtistinFocus Julia Jones was General Music Director of the Wuppertaler Bühnen und Sinfonieorchester from 2016-2021 where productions included Hänsel und Gretel, Carmen, Luisa Miller, Le nozze di Figaro and La bohème as well as a series of symphonic concerts showing her skill for combining traditional lesser known and seldom performed pieces alongside core repertoire, a signature of her programming style. #RAArtistinFocus Julia Jones performs regularly as a guest orchestral conductor, having led the Staatskapelle Dresden, Philharmoniker Hamburg, Mozarteumsorchester Salzburg, Gürzenich-Orchester, Radiosinfonieorchester Wien, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra. In the coming months, Julia Jones returns to the the Portguese Symphony orchestra and will open the Tiroler Festspiele val Erl with a programme that includes Mendelssohn’s “Die erste Walpurgis Nacht”.
