On 30 May 2026, soprano Francesca Chiejina performs the role of Elena in Nino Rota's Il capello di paglia di Firenze making her house debut at Oper Wuppertal where she will be joining the company as a member of the ensemble.
Roles in the recently announced 2026/27 season there include her anticipated debut as Desdemona Otello, Micaëla Carmen, The Queen The Princess and the Pea, and a performance of Strauss's Four Last Songs in a benefit concert for German Unity Day at the Historische Stadthalle Wuppertal.
This marks an exciting development for Chiejina who is a former Jette Parker Artist of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and the recipient of the UK Critic Circles' Young Talent Award.
Outside of Wuppertal, upcoming highlights include her debut at the Edinburgh International Festival in Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's The Song of Hiawatha with Raphael Payare and the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, Beethoven's 9th Symphony with the Hallé Choir, and a concert of operatic selections with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
