A new opera with music by Missy Mazzoli and libretto by Royce Vavrek received its world premiere at the Edinburgh International Festival this month. Conducted by director of Scottish Opera, Stuart Stratford, 'The Galloping Cure' offers a dark allegory of the American opioid crisis. The production has received glowing reviews, including 4* in The Guardian, 4* in the Scotsman, and 5* in The Times, with Stratford praised in The Guardian for drawing a 'powerful performance' from both the Scottish Opera Orchestra and the company ensemble. Bachtrack noted that the orchestra was 'on blistering form', whilst The Opera Critic described the performance of the orchestra and ensemble as 'exemplary'.
