Mahan Esfahani named in The Best Classical Music of 2012

17 December 2012

In an article entitled The Best Classical Music of 2012, critic Fiona Maddocks has listed harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani in her pick of the Top 10 UK classical music events of the past year. Featuring in The Observer and appearing alongside performances which include ENO’s production of The Pilgrim’s Progress and the CBSO’s performance of Britten’s War Requiem at Coventry Cathedral, Esfahani was chosen for his direction from the harpsichord of his own arrangement of Bach’s Art of Fugue with the Academy of Ancient Music at the BBC Proms last July. In a performance that was described as making ‘Bach’s counterpoint glisten so brightly’, this recent review only confirms Esfahani as ‘one of the leading harpsichordists of his generation’ (Opera Today).
