Mahan Esfahani appears as Artist-in-Residence at Bachfest Leipzig 2026, taking centre stage in a series of performances celebrating the music of J. S. Bach and the rich tradition of keyboard playing associated with the composer and his circle.
Across five festival appearances, Esfahani will present a wide-ranging exploration of Bach's keyboard works. Highlights include performances of Parts I and II of Bach’s Clavier-Übung, a programme devoted to concertos by Bach’s pupils with the Neues Bachisches Collegium Musicum and Reinhard Goebel, and a unique late-night series, My Favourite Clavichord Pieces, presented at the Bach Museum, featuring music by Cabezón, Froberger, J. S. Bach and C. P. E. Bach.
Reflecting on his residency, Esfahani describes performing Bach in Leipzig as “a bow to Leipzig”, acknowledging the city’s vital role in the composer’s artistic and intellectual life.
