Matthew Brook “resplendent” in Hyperion’s Christmas Oratorio

5 December 2013

Hyperion’s recent release of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio has been named ‘Album of the Week’ by Classic FM.  Reviewed on the ‘New Releases Show’, the recording features bass-baritone Matthew Brook who sings alongside the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment directed by Stephen Layton.  Described on the show as a recording which “you can’t go wrong with” (David Mellor), Matthew’s performance has been highly praised:

“Matthew Brook’s resplendent all-guns-blazing ‘Grosser Herr’.” – Paul Riley, BBC Music Magazine

“I was most impressed with the soloists, particularly Matthew Brook’s resonant bass.” – Graham Lock, Early Music Magazine

“Matthew Brook’s arias have a most enjoyable vigour.” - Carl Rosman, International Record Review
