Under the direction of Laurence Cummings, The Academy of Ancient Music will open their season on 30th September, with a programme '1765: Times of Transition', featuring Mozart, Haydn, Telemann and Philidor: four composers in a passionate age, reinventing music on the wing.
In November The AAM will travel to Venice to perform works of Monteverdi, Songs of Love and War and L'incoronazione di Poppea both featuring Rayfield Allied's Anna Dennis as soprano soloist and as the lead role Poppea which will also be performed at The Barbican on the 17th November.
Other highlights include music performed during the reign of King Charles I which includes works by the brilliant young composer and courtier William Lawes along with his contemporaries who were at the cutting edge of 17th century music.
The season will culminate in a very exciting new production of Beethoven's The Creatures of Prometheus together with the astonishing Circa, for Beethoven’s anniversary year. This will combine sublime music and the endlessly creative physicality of world-class circus performers.
